One Corral, Every Horse on Your Trailer

One Corral, Every Horse on Your Trailer

Ella Davidoff |

If you have been exploring portable corral options for your horses, you have probably noticed that not all corrals are built the same way — or designed with the same horse owner in mind.

Our Liberty Modular Corral is one of our most versatile and customizable setups, and we find that a lot of horse owners discover features they did not know they needed until they learn what the Liberty is actually capable of. Whether you are traveling with one horse or a mixed herd, setting up for a weekend event or a semi-permanent situation at home, the Liberty was designed to adapt to your life rather than ask you to work around its limitations.

Here is a full breakdown of what makes the Liberty different — and why for a lot of horse owners, it ends up being the only corral that checks every box.

WHAT MAKES IT MODULAR?

The Liberty corral comes to you partially assembled. The horizontal rails and vertical pipes arrive ready to connect; you insert the legs, and you are good to go. It is not a full DIY kit — there is no cutting, measuring, or building from scratch — but it is not completely ready-made either.

That middle ground is actually the whole point.

The modular design allows us to offer a larger-diameter pipe with three horizontal rails, creating a more enclosed, more substantial-looking corral without making shipping completely impractical. A fully assembled corral this size would have to ship freight, which adds significant cost and complication to every order. By shipping the components in a way that goes together quickly and easily, we can get a premium corral to your door via standard shipping without passing a freight bill onto you.

The result is a corral that looks and feels more substantial than our ready-made options, sets up with minimal effort, and arrives without a freight surcharge attached to it.

THREE RAILS & WHY IT MATTERS

Most of our ready-made corrals have two horizontal rails. The Liberty has three.

That additional rail does something subtle but meaningful. It creates a more enclosed feeling for the horse inside the pen.

More visual barrier. Less open space between rails. A horse that feels contained rather than just bordered tends to settle faster and stay calmer in a new environment, which is exactly what you want at the end of a long haul when everyone is tired and ready to be done.

The three-rail design also makes the Liberty a better visual deterrent for horses that are inclined to test boundaries, because a more enclosed fence reads differently to a horse than a more open one.

TALLER THAN STANDARD & CUSTOMIZABLE

Here is something that surprises many people about the Liberty line.

Most Camp Corrals (and most portable corrals in general) stand 4 feet tall. The Liberty comes in two standard height options: 4ft 2in or 4ft 9in. That difference between 4 feet and 4 feet 9 inches is more meaningful than it sounds, especially for taller horses, horses that like to reach over fences, or horse owners who just want that extra margin of security and presence.

And for situations that call for something even taller, a particularly athletic horse, an unusual situation, or a semi-permanent setup where height really matters, the modular design actually allows us to add a fourth rail as a custom configuration. It is not a standard option on the product page, so if that is something you need, just reach out to us directly, and we will talk through what is possible.

THE SPIKE LEG OPTION: FOR WHEN YOU NEED MORE SECURITY

Standard Camp Corrals sit on the ground and hold their position through weight and configuration. For most situations, that is exactly enough.

But the Liberty offers something our other corrals do not — an optional spike leg.

Think of it as a step-in post that is built directly into the bottom of the corral leg rather than set up separately around the outside. Instead of going around your corral after setup to individually drive posts into the ground and secure them to the panels, the spike legs are integrated into the panel itself. Set the panel, press the spike into the ground, and it is done.

It is a cleaner, faster, more seamless way to add ground security, and it makes a meaningful difference in situations where the corral needs to stay firmly in place. Rocky ground, uneven terrain, windy conditions, or high-traffic areas where horses are constantly moving around and bumping the panels all benefit from the added stability the spike legs provide.

The spike legs are also one of the reasons the Liberty is our best option for semi-permanent setups. If you remember Susan's story from a few weeks ago — the customer who came to us needing a temporary solution during construction and ended up leaving the panels up permanently — the Liberty with spike legs is the version of that story that makes even more sense. It is designed to hold up not just for a weekend but for the long term.
ONE CORRAL FOR EVERY HORSE ON YOUR TRAILER

Here is where it all comes together.

Many horse owners travel with more than just their main horse.

Miniature horse companions are very common, and they pose a unique containment challenge that most portable corrals are not designed to address.

A standard corral with open rails works beautifully for a full-sized horse. A miniature horse, however, can duck under the bottom rail, squeeze through the gap between rails, or find any number of creative exits that a 1,200 lb horse would never attempt.
We make dedicated mini and goat modular corrals specifically for this reason. Smaller panels, tighter spacing, designed from the ground up for smaller animals. If you travel with a mini or have goats at home, those are worth looking at on their own.

But here is the thing that a lot of people do not realize: you can also contain a miniature horse companion in a standard Liberty corral (or any Camp Corral, really) by adding the electric wire option.

The electric wire threads through the panels and fills the gaps between the rails — top, middle, and between the legs — creating a complete barrier that a miniature horse cannot crawl under, squeeze through, or navigate around. The physical rails give your full-sized horse a clear, visible boundary. The electric wire closes off every gap that a smaller animal might otherwise exploit.
One corral. One setup. One horse and their best friend, contained comfortably and safely in the same pen.

That is the Liberty doing what it does best, adapting to whatever situation you actually have rather than the ideal situation someone designed a product for.
