There’s something special about that first trip of the year. You know the one — when the days start getting a little longer, the trailer finally gets aired out, and you catch yourself thinking, “Okay… I think it’s time.” Time to load up. Time to hit the road. Time to watch your horse settle into a new place like they’ve done it a hundred times before.
We hear it every year: “I knew our first trip was coming… I just didn’t realize how fast it would get here.” That first trip has a funny way of sneaking up on us. One day you’re still bundled up, talking about “someday,” and the next you’re checking weather forecasts, digging out gear, and wondering if everything is ready.
That’s why this season is one of our favorites — not because everyone is traveling yet, but because it’s the calm before the rush. It’s a time to stock of what worked last year. Make adjustments without pressure. Think through your setup while there’s still breathing room. Whether you’re planning a big adventure, a clinic, or just a few weekends away, the goal is the same: when you arrive, you want things to feel familiar for you and your horse. A simple setup. A routine your horse recognizes. A space where they can relax, eat, and lie down comfortably after a day on the road.
We’ve seen over and over that horses settle faster when their environment feels consistent, even if everything else around them is new. And when they settle, you do too. So if you’re in that “thinking about it” stage right now, that’s perfect. This is the sweet spot, where preparation feels calm instead of rushed. When the trailer door finally closes and that first trip of the year begins, you’ll be glad you gave yourself that head start.
We’re cheering you on and can’t wait to see where this season takes you!
Warmly,
The Team at Camp Corrals
